I was walking out of one of my patient’s room when I heard, “Nurse, come here.” I looked across the hall and I saw an elderly woman sitting in her wheelchair in a dark room. It was in the afternoon so it was not totally dark. I noticed she had an x-ray jacket in her lap. She was not my patient but I went in to talk with her. I saw she had films scattered on her wheelchair and bed.
“Hi. Can I help you?” I asked out of curiosity.
“What are all of these?” she asked as she pointed to all of the films she apparently scattered.
“They look like a cat scan of your chest,” I responded after looking at the films. It was obvious to this untrained eye it was a CT of her chest. “Did you go for a test today?” I asked.
“Yes. They were supposed to take picture of my chest,” she responded.
“It looks like they did. Does the nurse know you are back?” I asked.
“I don’t know. But look at these. It looks like a bunch of teddy bears,” she said picking up one of the films. I looked at them and could not see where she saw teddy bears.
“Ok. I will see if the nurse can come and see you. And I have to admit I had never heard someone saying their cat scan looked like teddy bears,” I told her as I exited the room with a smile. She smiled back while still looking at her films. I thought about it for a while. It was an interesting comparison though. Teddy bears in the chest.
This is a picture of a normal CT of the chest. A teddy bear? I don't see it.....
